A letter to Evania Ahmed on her First Day to School

Today we have set you on a journey where you will discover yourself and the world around you. You are now free to make your own path in life on your own terms.

Evania gets to school on her first day.You are fortunate in more ways than you can imagine right now.

We wish you luck in every endeavor but you may not succeed every time. Be wise and learn from the mistakes you make.

You have a chance to learn new things every day. Seize the day and do something meaningful with it.

May your love for knowledge increase with time and you learn to value books like good friends, for a good friend never lets you down. Make great friends for they will stand by you when the going gets tough.

Wisdom is more important than knowledge. Train yourself to discern between those who are sincere to you and those who are not.

Just because you got a good start in life does not mean that you were entitled to it. You owe a lot to people less fortunate than you. Understand it. Be a giver, not a taker.

The world is wonderful with all its problems and challenges. Nurture your positive attitude to make it better than how you found it.

Let your inner artist emerge. Capture what you find interesting and express it through color, song, or words.

You will learn in life that failure is important to bring out the best in you. Embrace it. Do not fear it for a moment. Move on with your next endeavor as soon as you are up on your feet again.

Enjoy the world; appreciate different cultures and diversity of people. Life would not be fun if everyone you met was similar to you or thought like you. Appreciate and respect a different point of view if it is worth it.

Do not take anything for granted. Be thankful.

Beauty is powerful but its effects are often short lived, and physical beauty fades. Be kindhearted yet strong willed; let these traits constitute your true beauty.

Give everything to what you set yourself to achieve but always remember that a conversation with a loved one or a casual and aimless walk barefoot in a park is important too. Take time out for nurturing your soul. Run around screaming if you must, feel happy.

Forgive people for their faults. They are not out there to hurt you. They hurt themselves with their flaws far more than the damage they can ever cause you.

Be brave our little one. Welcome change – for change is the only constant in life. With the right attitude, things often change only for the better.

Nurture your athletic spirit. Thrive on challenge. Win a game but remember that you alone did not win it. There was a team of people who won it together. Give them more credit than they deserve. ‘We’ is a better word than ‘I’. ‘I’ is selfish and petty; two traits that you should stay far away from.

Utilize technology for what it is worth but your brain is the most wonderful and complex technology that is far more powerful than what any man made technology can ever be. Find out what is unique about you. Go to Buddhist temples for discovering the inner magic in you if you have to, don’t shy away from doing so.

There are no coincidences in life. Every person you meet and every chance you get to do something are ways in which you can change your destiny.

Leave the world a better place than how you found it. Make a difference for the better any way you can. Smile often. Love a lot. Be generous. Save the environment. Write a note appreciating someone. Make a list often, of things you are thankful for at any given moment in your life.

You are a fine little girl, Evania Ahmed. Have faith in yourself and your abilities. May you grow up to be a wonderful, talented young girl and may your innate curiosity always stay with you.

Wish you luck all the way baby girl.

Your parents and (hopefully) your best friends,

Syma Ahmed & Ahmed Shuja

Surrounded by Evania and Ahmed Shuja does help in staying positive BIG time! Perhaps one should start positive psychology workshops in Pakistan. I think we need those.

This is what every one should understand. ‘I’ is the smallest letter in dictionary, never make it your biggest one. 🙂

    • Was just re-reading this letter for another purpose and saw your comment again. I wrote it with important feedback and input coming from my husband.

“When you know its right then always have faith in what you do and most importantly never ever demoralize your self in life, people around you might try to demotivate but when you have self confidence you will win eventually”
